Rewires
Signs that you may need a rewire:
Metal Conduit - installed in homes in the 1940s and 1950s. It can be extremely dangerous if earthing has been compromised. The cotton cables inside the metal conduit deteriorates over time and if your metal pipe isn't earthed correctly it can cause electrocution. In fact, in February 2010 a man near Geelong was electrocuted in a ceiling space as a result of damaged cable. Under no circumstances should you go anywhere near metal conduit.
Black Cable - installed in the 1950s. Its rubber coating perishes over time and can sometimes ooze a green sticky substance. Black cable is not usually earthed.
White Plastic Sheathing- installed in the 1960s and 1970s. This type of cable usually has no earthing.
Other signs that you may have issues with you wiring include lights flickering when turning on other appliances, power dropping out when using too many appliances and other ongoing electrical issues including tripping switches.
Fifty years ago we used less appliances and homes were wired accordingly.
All of these cables run through your walls, under your floor and in the ceiling space of your home so if you have any concerns at all about the safety of your wiring please give us a call and arrange a peace of mind safety inspection.
We can offer full or partial rewires as well as switchboard, mains and metering upgrades.
